چکیده

The integration of communication protocols into transport systems is a much adored research area today. Much of seminal work has been reported on the topic of intelligent transportation systems (ITS) in the recent years. Many advanced techniques have been garnered to improve online communication and to promote the security, comfort, and efficiency of ITS. Of primary importance to the effective application of ITS is the communication protocol used. A fascinating development is that the yesterday’s Global System forMobile Communication protocol is being replaced by the Universal Mobile Telecommunication System protocol, which is the third-generation mobile technology. This article attempts to identify a suitable communication system for ITS applications. It is impracticable to substantially modify the original UMTS-IMS-AKA protocol which is in practice because it can disturb the operation of the current system, and thus we explore other possibilities through this research. We investigate a novel protocol to make the original UMTS-IMS-AKA protocol compliant with ITS as well as adaptable into the current UMTS protocol.

Computational Security Analysis of the UMTS and LTE Authentication and Key Agreement Protocols

One of the forerunners and main candidates for the fourth generation (4G) generation mobile communication system is commonly known under the name Long-Term Evolution (LTE) and its standard is produced and maintained by the international 3rd Generation Partnership Program (3GPP) consortium. The LTE Authentication and Key Agreement (AKA) protocol design is based on the Universal Mobile Telecommun...

NS-AKA: An Improved and Efficient AKA Protocol for 3G (UMTS) Networks

In this paper, we propose an improved and efficient AKA protocol named “NS-AKA” to prevent the 3G UMTS networks from various attacks like man-in-the-middle attack, redirection attack, replay attack and active attacks in the corrupted UMTS networks. This protocol completely eliminates the need of synchronization between a mobile station and its home network, and protects the actual identity of e...

3G Networks A solution to Improved Authentication and Key Agreement Protocol

With the development of mobile communication network, the requirements of mobile users for data services are higher and higher, which makes data service become more diversiform and various service providers appear on after the other. As a result, data services increasingly become the main service in mobile network. The Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) is one of the new ‘third g...

On the feasibility of UMTS-based Traffic Information Systems

Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) are a hot topic in the communications society. Currently, research is primarily focusing on setting up Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks (VANETs) based on WLAN technology. However, VANETs are heavily dependent on high market penetration or infrastructure support. Third-generation (3G) networks might complement these efforts. They are already widely deployed and ...

An Extended Authentication and Key Agreement Protocol of UMTS

Identification, authentication and key agreement protocol of UMTS networks have some weaknesses to provide DoS-attack resistance, mutual freshness, and efficient bandwidth consumption. In this article we consider UMTS AKA and some other proposed schemes. Then we explain the known weaknesses in the previous frameworks suggested for UMTS AKA protocol. After that we propose a new UMTS AKA protocol...
